How do you drop items onto the ground? I've never had any cause to do it but was wondering.

Click and hold an item in your inventory and drag it out of the inventory screen. It'll drop on the ground when you are in an explorable.

This can't be done in town though. If you want to get rid of an item, drag the item to the recycle bin next to your bags in the inventory screen.

And NEVER drop an item on the ground to "show" it to someone! People who ask you to drop something want to steal it from you.

And in case you're on a trial account, you can't drop items. Bots were abusing trial accounts before so Anet blocked abilities to trade or drop items on them.
